Today, we will discuss thoughts about the mind, body and the intellect, your entire personality derives from these four elements. First about the mind and the body –
What is your mind?
What you call as your body and your mind is nothing more than a heap of memory. In other words, your body is a bundle of memories. Due to this memory, everything plays its role in the same way as you remember it.
You may forget whether you are a man or a woman, but your body remembers it. Your mind also has similar situation, you may forget many things but your mind remembers everything and works accordingly.
Memory means past. You can play as much as you want with the past, but nothing new will be created. You can swap in whatever you already have, mix them, wipe out the old, but nothing new will be created. When we talk about creating a distance between you and your body, between you and your mind, then we talk about a possibility, where you are not a slave of the past, where anything can be newly crafted. What is that new thing? It depends on our direction of approaching it.
Based on Experience –
The common man is lost in a huge reservoir of his experiences. A collection of such collectibles where he cannot find whatever is actually needed, and easily accesses whatever is not required. You yourself try to recollect about those times from your experience, when you extracted and got lost within those old moments or events, which are not at all related to your current situations. Therefore Guru continuously tries to make you to throw away those rotten litter, wasteful, burden of your memories from your intellect, your conscience, and your life itself.
Looking for liberation from experiences and events –
The word salvation is very special to the general public, the general meaning of salvation is considered to be liberation from this life itself. Salvation does not mean transitioning to a new world or to heaven.
Salvation also does not mean achieving liberation by changing your place or your role. If your intellect is very active, then whatever is new now, will become old within 24 hours. If you are a bit slow-minded, it can take 24 years, but still it will certainly get old. In reality, you are not looking for something new, you are only looking for freedom from every old and new thing.
Forgive and Forget
One should adapt the policy of forgive and forget to terminate the above two situations. Our past is with us, but repeatedly bringing it into the present impacts our present. Some people find their past better than their present and they often recollect their past. But the tendency of repeatedly returning to the past is not effective for us or others.
Our past determines our thoughts and contemplations, so we repeatedly recollect our past. We get so immersed in these memories, that we do not realize when we suddenly run into the memories of our past. We cannot get rid of our past by doing so. Trouble occurs when we associate our present with the past, which creates many kinds of misconceptions in mind. Then we become whatever our past wants us to become.
A famous saying is- The past has passed and we are unaware of the future, and only the present is in our hands.
Be happy in the present
Present is our precious treasure. Actually, the present is our own and we are its owner. If we realize that the current opportunity is our golden chance, then we can make our future safe and prosperous. Living at present ensures the success and the possibility of a bright future. It is wise to handover the circumstances of life which are beyond our control, to the vagaries of the time. Time is the only medicine that can cure such conditions and situations. So it is important to stay vigilant about what is happening at every moment.
We should appreciate whatever is right, and bring positivity in our life. If a person wants happiness and peace in his mind, then he should follow the golden policy of forgive and forget, otherwise the memories of the past will always make him suffer.
Forgiveness in life is the only process, which can liberate us from the worries of the present and the past. Whenever we feel sad or unsuccessful in our present time, then we should realize that the time has arrived to learn from the past and in such situations, we should try to concentrate on improving our present by taking lessons from the mistakes committed in the past. It is said that whatever is past, has passed, now why to ponder about it. Frequently recollecting events of the past is similar to digging up the graves.
A person should remember that past does not change by just thinking about the past, but if lessons are learnt from the past, and the mistakes of the past are not repeated in the present, and if the present gets improved, then the quantum of happiness will increase in life and the person will be able to make better progress to grow and develop.
A person can do something new in his life only when he concentrates totally in his present and is completely liberated from his past. Then he is free from the chains and bondages of the past, and is able to do something fresh.
We can never achieve liberation from our mind, but it is possible to get some such opportunities daily, even if it is for a short duration.
Past, present and mental situation
The person lives together with four types of mental states – (1) present mind, (2) absent mind, (3) double mind, and (4) concentrated mind
The present mind implies that the mind knows and sees whatever is going on.
The absent mind indicates the presence of mind at some other location instead of at the required place.
In the double mind the person lives with two minds. One mind directs him to do some work while the other mind implores him to wait. However a focussed, concentrated mind is always alert and concentrated towards its goal and purpose, without distracting from these disruptions. The people who move ahead with the present and with a concentrated focussed mind in life, achieve success while the ones with absentee and double hearted mind keep wandering around.
It is necessary to be focussed and concentrated to achieve success in every field of work in the world. Our focus should be such that we are completely immersed within our work.
The double and absent mind makes a person stray away from his goals and actions.
The mind drives the brain and the brain runs the body. Thus the body obeys the commands of the mind. The stability of the psyche, the calmness of the mind and the wholeness of the person is called Yoga.
The harmony, equilibrium, balance and supremacy of life in life is not possible without a focussed concentration of mind, or without utilization of the present current moment.
If man utilizes his concentration and uses the current moment, then he can transform his life by obtaining many important achievements and successes. However a double or absent mind causes no significant change in the situation of life, and the level of life deteriorates instead of rising up. Therefore it is more appropriate to learn something from your past instead of merging your mind to the past. Only then will we be able to improve our present and enhance our future.
Forgive yourself on the new year eve and forget it all –
The mind keeps crying about the sad experiences, and remains disturbed. His sorrow stays with him due to remembrance of the sad experiences of the past.
Treat past events as a vampire –
We get whatever we think about or whatever we want. The past experiences will control us like evil spirits as long as we keep remembering them. The Hindi meaning of past is Bhootkaal, or “Bhoot” (ghosts), and accompanying them will convert our behaviours and manners to become like theirs.
The past events of the past are like the ghosts-vampires and we should get rid of them. We should always look forward and illuminate our life according to our principles. Our future solely depends on how we think and do today.
Let the past remain buried within the past –
Often we recollect the past events and complain that someone did not behave well with us, or did not help us. But we do not realize that those were the incidents of the past, and now a lot of change has come within us and those people.
It is also possible that the cause of those incidents could be our own deeds of the past lives, or some specific situations. We should now accept this change. Are we not enhancing our own pain by frequently remembering those past events?
Like everyone else, we also want peace and happiness and for this we have to understand that the past is past and it has passed away. So we should pay more attention to our future. We should make our present and future more enjoyable by removing sadness and adopting different methods of finding happiness.
Choose Pearl from Life Like a Goose –
Do we wish to become like a crow who always sits on a pile of litter and feeds garbage to himself. Should we continue to sit atop a heap of the bitter memories of the past, which are similar to scum. Or should we choose virtues like a goose who always chooses pearls. And forget the old bitter past.
We should take just one single lesson from the past to not repeat the same old mistakes of the past. We should only obtain experience from the past to move ahead.
Time continues to fly –
We should always bear in mind that the time never stops. The events-incidents occur one after another and become a part of our past. If we destroy our current time in thinking about the past, then we will have to regret later that we have lost our present through our own hands.
We lose the past time within the regret by living in the past, and destroy the present current time by recollecting the past incidents. We should remember Almighty God instead of doing so and stop recollecting those insignificant people and events. Then we can live happily and achieve completeness in our life.
Whatever we think, we become. If we continue to remember the bad incidents of the past and continue to live in them, then we too will become like that. We should enhance our present by improving our actions, and wash away the stains of the bad deeds done in the past. We should beware lest we remain entangled in the past and the time passes away.
