10 Essential Sadhana Articles You Must Have at Home

The most pious spot in the house is one’s place of worship. It is a place where one can sit peacefully to accomplish some Sadhana, where one can place the picture of one’s deity or Guru. It is necessary to know what one must keep in the worship place. The following Sadhana articles are amazing boons which are virtual pillars of a successful life.

Man always feel an emptiness within, which cannot be filled with the transient joys of material life, pleasures and comforts. He keeps searching for some newness. What he is looking for he does not know. He is totally unaware whom he seeks, where he shall find it or when he shall succeed.

The world outside keeps changing. In this ever changing world man is looking for permanent source of peace which he is not able to locate. In the fast world outside there is no peace and there can never be.

How bewildering is this world! A friend only a moment ago turns into a staunch foe a minute later. A happy family in no time turns into a wailing group, lamenting the loss of a loved one. Wealth is God and to rake in the maximum, tricks, deceits, subterfuge, lies are all but part of the game. Wealth is amassed at all costs and the very next moment the same wealth becomes the cause of one’s sorrows.

Even money does not bring peace nor do the amazing plans hatched by the brain. Rather the very plans entangle one in a maze that is hard to escape. And then starts a search, a search for light, for true joy, for the divine.

The material pleasures can never slake the thirst of the soul just as fireflies cannot light up a dark room. No matter how much name, fame or wealth one earns in life there cannot be true satisfaction without spiritual accomplishment.

The mind becomes stupefied by the vagaries of fate and nature keeps manifesting accidents and sudden upheavals in life. Constant problems make man helpless and then he is forced to call out to the unknown power that rules over everything in the universe. This silent prayer, this cry is known as Sadhana or worship.

Sadhana means to concentrate, to make effort for making the soul stronger and to fuse the soul in the Supreme. A stream appears from the high mountains and crossing jungles, rocks, and hills it flows on and ultimately merges into the ocean. A human too faces lots of problems, ups and downs and pains and ultimately wishes to lose himself in the divine ocean of joy known as Sat Chit Anand. The goal of a river is ocean and the aim of human life is realisation of the supreme element.

For this we seek recourse of Sadhanas and worship so that we could soon attain to supreme joy. And for this at least the following ten articles must find place in the place of worship at home. But these should be Mantra energised and consecrated so as to be really effective.

Just as a family is complete with parents, a spouse, children, grand children and wealth similarly these ten articles constitute a worship place in its totality.

    • Picture of Gurudev: A Sadhak and a disciple needs a Guru quite as a human needs food. Guru is the power which is present in the heart, mind and body of the disciple and helps him carry out all his tasks. The image of a Guru ever remains in the eyes of the disciple and he worships the master as a deity and protector. There is no other deity as powerful and capable as the Guru. The Guru element is present in the whole universe and each particle of nature. But till a disciple does not form a permanent link with it as elucidated by the Upanishad verse Poornnamadah Poornnamidam, he has to keep a picture of the Guru before himself in order to make his spiritual progress possible. And the picture should be large, divine and overflowing with blessings and affection of the Master. It should find place in the worship place so that daily you could bathe it, offer incense, lamp and sweets, and speak out your wishes, prayers to Him.A beautiful, divine picture always proves to be a source of inspiration, besides making the family atmosphere congenial and constantly filling one with a feeling that revered Gurudev is ever showering His grace on me and keeping a watchful eye on all my actions.

Such a feeling shall keep you away from sinful action and motivate you towards good action. The atmosphere of the family, the society in which you live is very poisonous and harmful to spiritual inclinations. In such circumstances one needs a picture of the Guru which could keep giving a boost to one’s spiritual endeavours and help one in the awakening of the Kundalini.

The ancient texts state that a Guru is not a physical being. Rather he is a power that gives spiritual inspiration and encouragement. When the sun of fortune of disciples rises the Guru power appears in human form on earth to free them of the effect of past Karmas and to remove the darkness of ignorance from their minds.

It is very difficult for a disciple or a human being to realise and comprehend the Guru in His divine form. Some very conscious disciples can but not the majority of them. This is why the Guru manifests in a simple form on the earth for the good and welfare of the mankind.

This omnipotent and omnipresent power that thus manifests, can at any point of time in the life of a disciple appear to lead him on the right path. This is why wise seekers keep searching for the right Guru.

Just as the mother takes care of her child by constantly looking after it, similarly the Guru ever keeps a watch on the disciple and does not allow him to go wayward.

To keep this feeling ever alive that one is always being protected and taken care of, one needs a picture in one’s room or worship place. The worship place should especially be graced by a divine picture of the Master.

    • Guru Yantra: Tantram Mantramayam Proktam Mantraatmaa Devateiv Hi.
      Dehaatmanoryathaa To Bhedo Yantra Devataayostathaa.
The body of the deity is known as Yantra and without worshiping a Yantra the deity cannot be appeased.Guru Yantra is capable of removing all pains, afflictions and problems of one’s life.Just as there are houses for humans to live in similarly the deities too have special places earmarked for them. The pious home of a deity is known as Yantra. Yantras are also called as Devnagars or cities of deities in the texts. Not only the deity rather all His assistant ethereal beings and his powers live in the Yantra.

Thus Guru Yantra is not just a collection of strange lines rather it is the home to all the powers of the Guru. Without understanding this fact, success in Sadhanas remain doubtful. When invited to do so the Guru comes to reside in such a Yantra and helps the Sadhak fulfill all his wishes through His blessings.

Guru is the greatest treasure of the life of a disciple with the help of which the disciple ever remains prosperous. No soon does he make a wish the next moment it gets fulfilled. Although the first boon of Guru Sadhana is a spate of problems which are nothing but tests of the Guru to assay his faith, yet one who passes through these tests without complaining gains all that there is to in this life.

It is only after one has been through such tests that Guru finds a permanent place in one’s heart. Only then does the true knowledge devolve upon a disciple on its own, only then does a disciple dive into the ocean of divine joy and only then do all paucities of his life disappear.

Without Guru Yantra success in no Sadhana is possible. A real Guru, his Guru Mantra and a consecrated, Mantra energised Guru Yantra is obtained when the fruit of one’s Sadhanas, sacrifice, devotion and faith manifests.

The texts are evidence to it that merely by placing the Guru Yantra in one’s house all problems and obstacles are removed and one starts to make quick progress to the highest echelons of success. It is only when a disciple becomes devoted and faithful that a Guru gifts him Guru Yantra. Every disciple should surely have a Guru Yantra in his home.

    • Guru Rahasya Rosary: A rosary is very important in a Sadhana for keeping count of the Mantra chanting. Just as weapons are necessary in a war for victory, similarly for success in a Sadhana a rosary is a must. Some people try to be very wise and say that there is no need of a rosary in a Sadhana. But when a Sadhak is new his mind keeps wandering and hence till he does not reach the deepest level of meditation he should surely use a rosary for chanting. Those who chant a Mantra without keeping count might well experience that when their mind wanders during the Sadhana they become oblivious of the purpose of the Sadhana. But when one is counting the numbers of chanting there is less chance of the mind being diverted. If the mind does get diverted the rosary stops moving and when suddenly the Sadhak returns to his senses he can continue from the bead where he had stopped and concentrate his mind in the form of the deity.A rosary is used in Sadhana so that the wandering mind could be concentrated in the divine and pure form of the deity. Without a rosary this exercise proves difficult.

Hence keeping count of the numbers of chanting is very important and using a rosary a Sadhak remains concentrated in the aim of chanting the required number of Mantras.

For chanting of the Guru Mantra one must have a Guru Rahasya rosary. This rosary is energised with Guru Mantra or the power of the Guru. Through it the entire body, mind and the soul can be purified and made divine. Without chanting the Guru Mantra the disciple can never become one with the divine form of the Guru. And the only real aim of the life of a disciple is fusing totally in the form of the Guru.

In this aim the Guru Rahasya rosary can prove very helpful. The beads that are used to make this rosary are energised with the Guru Mantra chanted at least five lakh times. This is why this rosary is very powerful and effective, and life long it continues to fulfill the wishes and desires of the Sadhak. The energy fused in this rosary is that of the Supreme Guru element. It can be used in every Sadhana related to the Guru.

The special feature of this rosary is that it can be a source of divinity, joy and enlightenment even if it is just placed at home. But the rosary must be Mantra energised and consecrated, hence one must procure only such a rosary.

An ordinary rosary shall only prove ineffective and chanting a Mantra with such a rosary fails to produce the desired result. When the rosary itself is ordinary how can it bestow divinity? There is in fact a particular method of consecrating every Sadhana article.

Guru Rahasya rosary is very effective in manifesting the divine powers of the Guru. Whenever some problem comes in one’s life and a Sadhak wears the rosary around his neck, the negative forces are automatically neutralised. This is an often experienced fact and the reason is that when one chants Mantra with this rosary it becomes charged with powerful energy which can help one in difficult times.

Guru Rahasya rosary is really a wonderful Sadhana article. Among all the energies of the universe the Guru energy is most powerful and effective. Hence there can be no doubt that a rosary energised with Guru power has to be really divine.

This rosary is a precious treasure which should be carefully guarded. And hence for these very reasons it should find a permanent place in one’s worship place. One should not present or lend this rosary to anyone else for it is imbibed with the power of your Sadhanas and Mantra chanting. We hope you have realised the great significance of this rosary and shall surely give it place in your home.

    • Shree Yantra: Shree Yantra is a favourite of Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Where this Yantra is placed there can be no dearth of wealth. All the Rishis, Yogis and great souls have accepted unanimously that this Yantra is capable of attracting wealth. Lakshmi may not be easily won over by any other means but just placing the Yantra at home pleases Her and She promptly bestows wealth, prosperity, comforts and success on the Sadhak. Where this Yantra is placed there cannot be poverty. This Yantra is also unique for riddance from debts.According to the sage Bharadwaj this Tantra is simply wonderful and capable of bestowing totality in life specially if it is made of metal and is Mantra energised and consecrated.Shree Yantra contains a very mystic inscription which is made of seven triangles. Around the centre triangle is a octagon around which is a decagon and finally a figure with fourteen sides. The text Yantra Gyaan states –

      Chaturbhih Shivchakre Shakti Chakre Panchabhih.
Nav Chakre Sansiddham Shree Chakram Shivayorvapuh.

Around the Shree Chakra three boundaries are drawn which are symbolic of the three energies. Under it is a sixteen petaled lotus inside which is an eight petaled lotus. In it are fourteen triangles that are symbolic of fourteen energies. In it can be clearly seen ten triangles which denote ten symbols of prosperity.

In it are eight triangles which are symbolic of eight goddesses. In it is a triangle denoting Lakshmi. In this triangle is a spot which symbolises Goddess Bhagwati. A Sadhak when worshipping this Yantra should concentrate on this spot and project an image of Goddess Lakshmi seated on a lion at this spot.

Shree Yantra symbolises a total of 2816 energies or Goddesses and worshiping this Yantra means worshiping all these energies.

There are available hundreds of texts related to this Yantra. And not just the Indian texts rather the western scholars have praised this Yantra highly. The western scholar Woodruff has said – The more I tried to unravel the mystery of this Yantra the more I got entangled in it.

Such is the formation of this Yantra that it automatically becomes divine and energised. Each boundary and triangle in it is so related to the other that it forms a strong mystic force that without doubt brings success. One who has this Yantra is a really fortunate, famous and great man.

The sage Kannaad said that if one has a Shree Yantra which is Mantra energised then one need not try any other Sadhana or ritual on it. Such a Yantra is itself divine and it starts to bring positive results and effect if it is placed at home. An incense when lit sends its fragrance in all directions without discrimination. Similarly wherever this Yantra is placed at home it starts to produce wonderful results.

    • Paarad Shivaling: Paarad Shivaling is the most unique and wonderful boon gifted to the humans by the gods. Everything can be had through one’s efforts but a Mantra energised, consecrated Paarad Shivaling can be obtained only when one’s fortune smiles on the person. It is a symbol of good luck and just looking at it destroys all the sins of past lives and makes the person fortunate. The foremost and most revered of all Yogis, Poojya Gurudev Swami Sachidanand said that a Sadhak who places a Paarad Shivaling in his home and worships it or just has its glimpse daily becomes free of all sins and gains divine powers along with wealth, prosperity and all comforts. The text Ras Maartand says about this Shivaling:Ling Koti Sahastrasya Yatfalam Samyagarchanaat.
      Tatfal Kotigunnit Raslingaarchanaad Bhavet,
      Brahma-hatyaa Sahastraanni Gohatyaa Shataani Cha.
      Tatshannaadwilayam Yaanti Raslingasya Darshanaat,
      Sparshnaapraapyate Muktiriti Satyam Shivoditam.

A million times more fruitful is worshipping a Paarad Shivaling than worshiping a thousand Shivalings. Just looking at a Paarad Shivaling neutralises the effect of sin of killing a thousand Brahmins and cows. Touching a Paarad Shivaling without doubt makes one free of all problems and quickens one’s spiritual progress. These are the words of none other than Lord Shiva.

      The text Rasaarnnav Tantra states:
      Dharmaarthkaam-mokshaakhyaa Purushaarthashchaturvidhaa.
      Sidhyanti Naatra Sandeh Rasraaj Prasaadatah.

A person who worships a Paarad Shivaling just once in his life surely gains Dharma (righteousness), Arth (wealth), Kaam (pleasures) and Moksh (spiritual progress).

The text Brahmaveivart Puraann clearly states:
      Pachyate Kaalsootrann Yaavachandradivaakari.
      Kritvaaling Sakrit Poojya Vasetkalpashatam Divi.
      Prajaavaan Bhoomivaan Vidwaan Putra-baandhavvaanastathaa.
      Gyaanvaan Muktivaan Saadhuras Lingaarchanaad Bhavet.

One enjoys all comforts in life and attains wealth, fame, position, respect, sons, grandsons, high education and prosperity if one worships a Paarad Shivaling just once in one’s life time. And such a person surely reaches a high position in life.

      The text Vaayveeya Samhita states:
      Aayuraarogyameishvarya Yachchaanyadapi Vaanchhitam.
      Raslingaarchanaadishtam Sarvatam Labhate Narah.

Longevity, good health, prosperity and all desired achievements can be had through the worship of Paarad Shivaling.

Symbol of Lakshmi too: Paarad shivaling is an icon of Lord Shiva but texts like Lakshmi Upanishad and others have accepted Paarad Shivaling as a symbol of Lakshmi as well. Lord Vishnu has himself said that the house in which a Paarad Shivaling is placed is surely graced by Lakshmi the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. There can never by any paucity in that house.

    • Rudraksh Rosary: For the chanting of Shiva Mantra Rudraksh rosary is the bast as prescribed by the ancient texts. It has 108 beads and each bead is energised with the Mantras relating to Lord Shiva. This is why this rosary proves to be very effective. All Mantras of Lord Shiva can be chanted with this rosary.Rudraksh means a special bead produced from the eyes of the Lord. Rudra means Shiva and Aksh means eye. While stringing the beads each bead is energised with Shiva Mantra and then the rosary is washed with pure water chanting the Sadyojaat Mantra which is as follows:
Om Sadyojaatam Prapadyaami Sadyojaatave Namo Namah.
Bhave Bhave Naati Bhave Bhavaswamaam Bhavodbhavaay Namah.
After this sandalwood paste, Agar and fragrance is rubbed on the beads chanting the following Vaamdev Mantra:
Om Vaamdevaay Namo Jyeshtthaay Shreshtthay Namo Rudraay Namah Kar Vilarannaay Namo Val Vikarannaay Namo.
Valaay Namo Bal Prathamaay Namo Sarva Bhoot Damanaay Namo Manomanaay Namah.
Next the following Aghor Mantra is chanted while offering incense:
Om Aghorebhyo Ghorebhyo Ghor Ghor Tarebhaya Savebhya Sarva Sharvebhyo Namaste Astu Rudra Roopebhyo.

After this the rosary is smeared with saffron chanting the following Tatpurush Mantra:
Om Tatpurushaay Vidmahe Mahaadevaay Dheemahi Tannorudraay Prachodayaat.

Next the following Eeshaan Mantra is chanted on each bead:
Om Eeshaanah Sarvavidhaanaam Eeshwar Sarvabhootaanaam Brahmaadipati Brahmaadhi Patim Brahma Shivoham Astho Sadaa Shivom.

Next chant one round of the Guru Mantra with the rosary:
Om Param Tatvaay Naaraayannaay Gurubhyo Namah.

Next join both palms and chant thus:
Maale Maale Mahaa Maale Sarvashakti Samanvite Chaturvargaa Tvayinyistah Tasmaan Me Siddhidaa Bhav.

With these Mantras the rosary becomes really divine and it helps in raising the fortune of the Sadhak.

Lord Shiva is called Mahadev, Lord of all deities. The Mantra of such a great entity should not be chanted with any ordinary rosary. Rudraksh rosary is the best among all rosaries. But it proves really effective when it is consecrated with the above Mantras.

Such a rosary should surely be placed in one’s place of worship at home. This rosary is so powerful and effective that you can yourself experience it. When a Sadhak places such articles at home and regularly uses them then a time comes when he realises their power.

    • Paarad Ganapati: Paarad is a divine metal and its importance is very obvious from the following line taken from the text Ras Ratna Samuchchya:
Siddharase Karishye Nidraaridrya Magadam Jagat.i.e. if mercury is consecrated then it becomes capable of banishing poverty and diseases. It is further stated in the text:
No medicine or herb or metal is capable of keeping a human body totally free of diseases for all metals get wet by water, can be burnt in fire and dried with heat, but Paarad is a unique element that remains unaffected by these influences. Mercury is subjected to special chemical reactions and it is made solid. Thus it becomes elixir like and through such Paarad even the most impossible can be achieved. When an idol of Lord Ganpati is made from such Paarad and it is worshiped the Sadhak is bestowed with knowledge, intelligence and all divine powers. This is because Lord Ganapati is the Lord of all powers and he is the first to be worshiped among all deities on any auspicious occasion or ceremony.

No ceremony among Hindus starts without first offering prayers to Lord Ganapati. Not just this before starting any Sadhana or worship of any deity, Lord Ganapati is worshiped with an aim to seek His blessings for success in the ritual. No other deity is given so much respect and love as Lord Ganapati. And truly He is a unique deity in the Indian pantheon of Gods and Goddesses.

Ganesh or Ganapati means Lord of Ganns or the divine attendants of Lord Shiva. Every human has five physical senses, five mental senses and four spiritual senses. The energy that runs through all these senses is the energy of the fourteen deities whose Lord is Ganesh.

The divine form of the Lord is very handsome and benign. He has one tusk and four hands in which He wields a lasso, Veena (a stringed instrument) and a corn cob. The fourth hand is raised in blessing. He has a red complexion and a huge belly. He has large fan like ears and wears red robes. His body is smeared with red sandalwood paste. He is worshiped with red flowers.

If propitiated with full faith He manifests in a physical form to help his devotee. He has a divine form that has manifested not by the natural process of procreation and He is dedicated to the fulfilment of the wishes of his Sadhaks.

Paarad is capable of banishing ailments, poverty and old age. It can transform old age into eternal youth. It can also bestow upon a person all the eight Siddhis or powers. Paarad has originated from the body of Lord Shiva and hence it is the best among all elements.

Lord Ganapati is a deity who becomes pleased with a Sadhak even if he just chants His name and He removes all problems from one’s life and propels one onto the path that leads to success. If one performs Sadhana or worship of such a kind deity on a Paarad Ganapati then the result would be stupendous. Through his Sadhana, worship and chanting of his name there is a rise on intelligence of the Sadhak, all wishes are fulfilled and all problems and obstacles are removed thus making life easy and smooth.

    • Trishakti Yantra: This Yantra imbibes the energies of three Goddesses – Baglamukhi, Chhinmasta and Mahakali. The greatest benefit of this Yantra is that it can help one attain the Siddhi of three Mahavidyas at one go and that too very easily.Through worship of Goddess Baglamukhi a person emerges victorious in every field of life. All his enemies are defeated and he attains to fame, respect, power and high position in life. Not just this he gains supreme knowledge due to which he can speak eloquently on any subject. His arguments and statements leave even the greatest of scholars of a subject speechless. A magnetism develops in his personality and others are easily captivated by him.Mahakali means a Goddess who can help one defeat even death. A worshiper of Mahakali is healthy, handsome and long lived. If there is a chance of some accident or mishap in life it is averted due to the grace of the Goddess. Evil planets cannot harm him and beneficial ones turn into more beneficial. As Kaal also means time or the future hence a worshiper of Mahakali also becomes clairvoyant, that is capable of viewing past and future events.

Spiritual progress becomes possible through the Sadhanas of Goddess Chhinmasta. It is believed by the people that Chinnmasta is a very powerful Goddess capable of bestowing quick spiritual progress.

The Goddess Chhinmasta and her two assistant energies Jaya and Vijaya represent the three channels of Kundalini – Ida, Pingala and Sushumna. When the head or the ego of a person is severed an elixir is produced that activates all the three channels.

When this happens the sex energy called Satva which naturally flows downwards starts to rise up and fills the whole body with a divine radiance. This is a very high spiritual state and one who reaches it is able to fuse with Brahm or the Supreme and become a Master of divine powers.

All these attainments become very easy through the unique device called Trishakti Yantra. This Yantra should find place in the worship place of every Sadhak.

    • Paarad Lakshmi: Through the idol of Lakshmi made from Paarad, life could be made prosperous. Sometimes a person tries very hard and makes supreme effort yet he fails to succeed in life. In such a situation a Mantra energised and consecrated Paarad Lakshmi should surely be placed at home and worshipped. It is clearly stated in Yajurved that if Goddess Lakshmi is propitiated and an idol of Lakshmi made from Paarad is placed in the South East direction and it is worshipped daily then wealth virtually rains in that house. In Yajurved, Goddess Lakshmi is propitiated in three forms – Shree, Swarnaawati and Paaradeshwari. It has been clearly mentioned in this text that among all the 108 forms of the Goddess the Sadhana of Paardeshwari Lakshmi is the most divine, fruitful and wealth bestowing. In a verse that appears in Saamved it is said – Just as Kalp Vriksh (wish tree) can fulfil all wishes, similarly Goddess Paaradeshwari can fulfil all one’s desires.

The text Dhananjya Sanchay states that the person who wishes to gain wealth, prosperity and comforts in life should through his Guru establish a Paarad shivaling in the North East and a Paaradeshwari Lakshmi in the South East direction in his place of worship.

Paarad Vigyan or the science of consecrating mercury is the most beautiful science for through it one can banish even poverty from one’s life and fill it with prosperity and riches.

Through the Sadhana of Paaradeshwari all financial problems are removed and one has monetary gains. Also all problems at job are removed and one gains name and fame in the society.

  • Kamalgatta Rosary:Sadhana of Lakshmi is of prime importance in life. Be it a family man or an ascetic without wealth life is not possible. Money is the pivot of human life. This is why Lakshmi has been worshiped from the earliest of times and is propitiated even today as well. We are living in a material world and as soon as one steps out of the house money is needed at each step.Hence worship of Lakshmi assumes a priority. Even great Rishis like Vishwamitra and Vashishtth realised that wealth is important in life and through powerful rituals they gained much prosperity. And as a result even great kings and rich individuals sought their help in times of need.Poverty is the worst curse of life. To banish this curse that could be haunting a house for generations one must try one’s best. Lakshmi is also called Kamalvaasini – i.e one who sits on a lotus. This is why for the Sadhana and Mantra chanting of Lakshmi we use a special rosary made of seeds of lotus which is called Kamalgatta Mala. The Goddess is easily appeased if one uses this rosary for the chanting of her Mantra and she bestows upon him wealth and comforts. There are other rosaries too that are prescribed for Lakshmi Sadhanas and with them too Lakshmi Sadhana can be accomplished. But using a Kamalgatta rosary helps one secure the blessings of the Goddess faster.

When this rosary is being prepared each of its beads is consecrated and energised by chanting a special Mantra hundred times so that the rosary could be made powerful enough to bestow instant result in Sadhana. In all Sadhanas of Mahalakshmi this rosary proves to be very useful and favourable.

The sage Vishwamitra was at a time the most poor among all Rishis so much that he could not even provide two square meals to his disciples.

Then he finally used a Kamalgatta rosary in the Sadhana of Sahastraakshi Lakshmi and gave a permanent place to wealth and prosperity in his Ashram. Thus he became one of the most powerful, wealthy and prosperous of all Rishis. The stupendous success of sage Vishwamitra was due to Kamalgatta rosary. From this example it is very much clear how useful this rosary is. I hope you shall also place such a very rosary in your home.

As the rosary has beads of lotus seeds there is a possibility of their being infested by insects. So occasionally rub some mustard oil on the rosary beads. This shall assure longevity of the rosary. Thus you shall be able to use this divine Sadhana article for a long time to come.
